Pathway for ICASL members to CPA Australia membership

CPA Australia has established some eligibility criteria for members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) to become members of CPA Australia.

The following steps demonstrate the pathway for ICASL qualified members to gain Associate membership of CPA Australia.

Step 1: determine eligibility

The following criteria applies to ICASL members with a degree who:

  1. hold a degree comparable to at least an Australian three year fulltime bachelor degree
  2. have passed the 2005 ICASL Examination syllabus

Each application is subject to a formal, individual assessment of qualifications.

Step 2: complete application

Complete the application to join as an associate member form. Include the following with your application and documentation:

  • certified true copies of your official degree award/s and transcripts
  • letter of good standing (to be obtained from ICASL), dated no older than one year prior to application, which contains the following information:
    • the date you joined ICASL
    • the date you advanced to your current member status
    • confirmation you are not currently subject to any disciplinary sanctions or investigation, and have not been subject to any disciplinary sanctions in the past five years

Step 3: forward application

Forward your application to:

Step 4: processing of application

Your application will take approximately four weeks to process. If there are any queries regarding the details of your application, a CPA Australia staff member will contact you via email.

If your application is successful, an initial email will be sent to you informing you of your success. A welcome pack, including a membership certificate, will follow by mail.

If your application is unsuccessful, a letter will be sent to you outlining the reasons why your application was not successful. Advice will be provided as to how you can meet CPA Australia's membership requirements.

Step 5: advancement to CPA status

Eligible ICASL members will need to successfully complete the following segments of the CPA Program and, subject to satisfying the relevant mentored work experience program recognised by CPA Australia, will advance to CPA status of CPA Australia membership:

  • CPA 108 Reporting and Professional Practice
  • CPA107 Corporate Governance and Accountability
  • CPA111 Contemporary Issues in Financial Accounting
  • CPA 113 Business Strategy and Leadership

In the case of work experience, ICASL members can apply for an exemption from the Mentor Program.
